Orchestra

Pueo Preludes

This is our level 1 string orchestra consisting of students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Students do not need any previous experience playing a string instrument to be a member. Auditions for possible membership are held at the beginning of the year. Criteria for membership includes having good character traits and a good sense of pitch and rhythm. The string instruments in our orchestra program are violins, violas, and cellos. The school has an inventory of string instruments but these instruments must remain at the school for school rehearsal use and for concert performance use only. Instruments are not allowed to be taken home for home practice.

Students must practice at least 100 minutes a week on weekly assignments. Parents are encouraged to rent or purchase an instrument for home practice. Students who do not have an instrument at home must practice before school from 7:30-7:50 a.m. in the music room each morning to meet the 100 minute practice requirement.

The Pueo Preludes performs at the Winter Concert in December and the Aloha Concert in May. Other performances may be scheduled depending on music readiness. Students learn basic beginner playing skills and note reading.

Students in Pueo Strings practice to improve their musicianship through note reading, ear training, proper instrument positioning, ensemble playing, bowing techniques, phrasing, and improvisation.
