Each grade level curriculum has different music benchmarks that focus on a variety of musical concepts and skills. As many of the benchmarks are performance-based, active participation is critical for student success. Lessons draw from Orff, Kodaly, and Dalcroze approaches and methodologies, which focuses on singing, instrument playing, composing, improvising, notating, listening, movement, and integration with technology and other content areas.

Students have music on a seven day rotation. K-1 classes are 30 minutes; grade 2 classes are 40 minutes; and grades 3-5 have music for 45 minutes.
Music class curriculum and instruction is currently aligned to the HCPS III (Hawaii Content Performance Standards). However, we will be piloting the new Common Core Standards for Music in selected grade levels (adapted from the NAfME Standards).
